Abstract

Cocoons can become heavily contaminated by a large number of fungi during storage. Infection of tasar cocoons by six fungi isolated from naturally contaminated cocoons, viz. Fusarium moniliforme, Aspergillus flavus, Penicillium citrinum, Curvularia lunata, Drechslera spiciferum and Botryodiplodia theobromae exhibited a considerable loss in total, buffer-soluble protein and phenol content of the cocoons at different intervals. In all cases, maximum reduction of proteins and phenol was observed due to F. moniliforme at the end of incubation period.
