Abstract

Aims: Because of its mechanical stability, poly(carbonate)urethane (PUR) is commonly used to make membranes used in pulsatile ventricular assist devices (VADs). However, long term implantation in which the material is in contact with blood is reduced due to high thrombogenicity. For better biocompatibility, anti-thrombogenic coatings are developed biologically and synthetically.
