Abstract
Abstract A bioclimatic regionalization of the Soviet North is based on a combination of bioclimatic conditions, such as the impact of meteorological factors, radiation conditions and limitations on outdoor activity, and on a set of engineering‐climatic conditions, such as temperature of the coldest five‐day period, wind speeds and snow loads of 5% probability and maximum volume of snow accumulation. Three basic climatic zones and 14 regions are distinguished. The regionalization, which is mapped and shown in tabular form, may be used in regional analysis of the size and composition of the population of the Soviet North.
