Abstract

This book represents somewhat of a tour de force for a single author in the scope of literature reviewed. It contains nine chapters, all but one by Bezkorovainy: Tissue and an Overview on Nonheme Biochemistry, Ferrokinetics, Absorption of Nonheme (by Doris Narins), Chemistry and Metabolism of Transferrins, Chemistry and Biology of Storage, Interaction of Nonheme With Immature Red Cells, Microbial Uptake and Antimicrobial Properties of the Transferrins, Iron Sulfur Proteins, and Miscellaneous Aspects of Metabolism. Each chapter begins with biochemical background, discusses contemporary work, and ends with an extensive reference section. The 435 pages provide a comprehensive review of the biochemistry and physiological behavior of the iron-binding proteins, including the often neglected iron sulfur proteins. In addition to numerous typographical mistakes, there are certain limitations to the way the material is handled. The book is inclusive, rather than critical, and outdated concepts
