Abstract

Biochemical markers of bone turnover have a number of potential uses in osteoporosis, including the prediction of the rate of postmenopausal bone loss, the response to therapy, and the therapeutic monitoring. The authors discuss recent advancements and the development of assays for pyridinium cross-links of collagen, telopeptides of type 1 collagen, and bone-specific alkaline phosphatase.
