Abstract

The enzyme ACC deaminase encoded by acdS gene is known to play a significant role in sustaining plant growth and development under stress conditions by reducing stress induced ethylene production inside the plant. In the present investigation, Mesorhizobium ciceri isolates from chickpea plants growing under drought conditions were screened for the presence of acdS gene. Full length acdS gene from one of the isolates was successfully amplified. This is the first report showing presence of acdS gene in Mesorhizobium ciceri. Gene sequence analysis revealed that there were deletions at two positions in this gene as compared to M. loti acdS gene.
