Abstract

In recent years, the practice of bodybuilding has seen an increase in the number of fans in gyms and, along with this increase, the use of dietary supplements, such as creatine and whey protein, has been growing considerably by practitioners of the sport. In addition, the daily protein intake of bodybuilders exceeds the maximum recommendation, which, together with the use of these supplements, can lead to kidney and/or liver failure. The objective of this study was to analyze the liver and kidney function in bodybuilders who use Whey Protein and Creatine. For that, the individuals were divided into 3 groups and the data obtained that showed statistically significant values were found in 1 of the groups, in creatinine levels in relation to the other groups. Through the results found, it was not possible to observe a correlation between the use of Whey Protein and creatine, regardless of the dose, with possible alterations in the hepatic and renal profile in bodybuilders. Thus, more studies must be done to better understand a possible relationship between protein supplements and liver and kidney disorders.
