Abstract

We develop the fiber optic localized surface plasmon resonance (FO LSPR) sensor having three-dimensional nanostructure which is fabricated by zinc oxide nanowires and gold nanoparticles for highly sensitive plasmonic biosensing. Some important points of this work are (1) extended sensing area, (2) light trapping effect by nanowires, and (3) simple fiber optic based optical system. The proposed sensor shows 177% enhanced localized surface plasmon resonance response in bulk refractive index changes and 277% higher sensitivity in immunoassay of prostate-specific antigen when compared to two-dimensional FO LSPR sensor.
