Abstract

Bioactive peptides (BAPs) are made up of amino acids each ranging between 2 and 30 amino acids in length. BAPs from different proteins have major roles in the field of functional foods and nutraceuticals. They have been isolated and identified from a vast variety of sources such as meat, plants, eggs, dairy, marine and other natural products. The sequence of amino acids identified as BAPs are well known for their opioid, antioxidant, antihypertensive, antimicrobial, antithrombotic and several other biological activities. BAPs have been proven scientifically for their significant role in the prevention of several diseases. The chapter aims to provide comprehensive details on the bioactive peptides isolated from various natural sources like dairy, meat, plants and marine products. The chapter will cover various types of bioactive peptides and the sources from which they can be isolated.
