Abstract

In recent advancements in implant materials, to fight against corrosion and wear, Metal — on — Metal (MoM) hip joints and were used. Though it possess excellent Mechanical properties, the major concern of using MoM implants are, it has high wear, toxicity, corrosion and release of metallic debris in body fluids. The study is intended to investigate the mechanical properties of implant materials like wear, corrosion and release of metallic debris by performing scratch test are analyzed by coating the surface of Metal — of — metal (MoM) implant with magnetic Fe 3 O 4 nano particle. The study is aimed to decrease or prevent the release of metallic debris into body fluids, since the surface of the implant is coated with magnetic Fe 3 O 4 nano particle. Though if wear, corrosion takes place on the surface of the coated material, The nano particles does not escape out of the acetabular cup in which the ball revolves, due to the magnetic property of the coated material.
