Abstract
A simple dimeric binol-based fluorescent chemosensor S-1, capable of detecting Hg2+ in aqueous media is designed and synthesized. The Hg2+ recognition processes follow a photo induced electron transfer (PET) mechanism and are scarcely influenced by other coexisting metal ions. In addition, determination of mercury in waste water samples was also analysed.
