Abstract

Three rare cases of orbital metastases from female breast cancer are described: adenocarcinoma, scirrhus carcinoma and undifferentiated carcinoma respectively, because of the following interesting facts: (1) The orbital lesion appeared five to seven years after radical mastectomy without a recurrence in mastectomy scar or axillary lymph glands. (2) Patients were complaining of binocular diplopia without noticeable proptosis or any palpable orbital mass. (3) Only after orbital CT scan, biopsy and histopathology was the nature of the lesion identified as breast cancer metastases affecting a rectus muscle in the orbit. (4) The small size and very late appearance of metastases in the orbital muscle were explained on an auto-immune basis.
