Abstract

The existence of stable orbital motion in a static attractive inverse square potential is predicted for nonpolar molecules with anisotropic polarizability interacting with a charged nanotube or nanowire. A simple three-degree-of-freedom model is constructed to illustrate the underlying physics and the binding characteristics. Numerical results using the diatomic molecule ${\mathrm{I}}_{2}$ as an example are also presented.
