Abstract

The binding energy of an exciton in a cylindrical semiconductor quantum dot is investigated by the variational method using electron and hole finite potential wells corresponding to the GaAs/ Ga 1−x Al x As nanostructure. It appears that the coulombic correlation energy reaches a minimum for sizes comparable to the bulk exciton effective Bohr radius.
