Abstract

Just as we express a decimal number as a series of multiples of powers of ten, it is also possible to express the same number as a series of multiples of powers of 2. For example, the decimal number 14 is represented in decimal form as The same number expressed in binary form is or, expressed in binary-coded decimal form (see also section 9.9) the decimal number 14 is 8 + 4 + 2 + 0 = 14.
