Abstract

The problem of determining the optimal cross-sectional area function of clamped-clamped columns under creep conditions is investigated by using the Pontryagin maximum principle. Total volume V is minimized under given axial force P, critical time in the Rabotnov-Shesterikov sense t* and additional geometrical constraints.
