Abstract

An extension of the theory of bending of bimetal strips is presented in which account is taken of the effects of a heat flux transverse to the strip, thus causing a temperature difference across it. The theory is further extended to cover four different conditions of restraint of the ends of the strip. It is shown that the use of such bimetal components may bring considerable benefits in the design of thermally stressed components.
