Abstract

A number of conditions alter the normal metabolism of bilirubin in the neonate and can be monitored by measuring total bilirubin and conjugated bilirubin. Methods of measurement and the clinical aspects of total and conjugated bilirubin in serum and of bilirubin in amniotic fluid are discussed.
