Abstract

In this study, we analyzed intercultural bilingual education and the construction of Quechua-Aymara citizenship among university students in the highland region. A quantitative methodology with a non-experimental, descriptive, and correlational design was employed. The sample consisted of 130 Sociology and Anthropology students from the Faculty of Social Sciences at the National University of the Altiplano–Puno, using surveys with questionnaires as data collection techniques. The results revealed a moderate positive correlation (r=0.444) between intercultural bilingual education and the construction of Quechua-Aymara citizenship, with this correlation being statistically significant (p<0.001). This finding suggests that strengthening intercultural bilingual education fosters greater awareness and civic engagement among Quechua and Aymara students. However, low levels observed in both variables highlight the urgent need to improve educational programs to promote inclusive, respectful, and responsible citizenship toward cultural diversity.
