Abstract

Eight patients with bile peritonitis are reported upon. Two of these patients died. All patients displayed a rise in serum bilirubin and a lag in rise of serum alkaline phosphatase. Data from rats confirm that the bilirubin levels are conjugated. Data from dogs displayed the lag phase of rise of serum alkaline phosphatase. Bacterial contamination of bile peritonitis probably makes the disease worse.
