Abstract

Intramedullary nailing of femoral shaft fractures in patients with a high body weight is dicult because of problems associated with the introduction of the nail through the massive hip region. This case report deals with a young obese male with bilateral femoral shaft fractures. Extensive hematoma of both thighs and preexisting adiposity of both hip areas precluded antegrade nail insertion and a retrograde approach was chosen.
