Abstract

Insufficiency fractures (IFs) are a type of stress fractures that most commonly occur in the pelvis, followed by the proximal femur and vertebra. Less commonly, the lower leg and foot are involved. However, reports of IF of the medial malleolus are relatively rare. We herein report and discuss a case of bilateral IFs of medial malleoli in an elderly patient who was successfully treated conservatively. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first described case of bilaterally involved insufficiency fractures of medial malleoli.
