Bilateral ganglion cysts: case report and review of the literature.

Abstract

Bilateral ganglion/synovial cysts are very rare lesions, to the best of our knowledge only ®ve cases have been described. In 1979 Bushan et al. reported the ®rst case of bilateral ganglion cysts at L4±L5 [7]. In 1987, 1990, 1992 Conrad et al., Liu et al. and Weyns et al. described similar cases [12, 21, 37]. In 1987 Jabre et al. [20] described a case of bilateral synovial cysts of the cervical spine and ®nally Holtzman in 1987 reported a case at T12-L1 [18]. Here we report the ®fth case of bilateral ganglion cysts of the lumbar spine and the seventh case reported in the spine.
