Abstract

1. This report adds a case of bilateral Brenner tumor of the ovary to the literature, bringing the reported number of cases up to 25, and presents comparative histologic and histochemical changes of the two neoplasms.2. Comparison of the histochemical studies of the two tumors reveals PAS- and alcian blue-positive material in the epithelial aggregates of the right ovary only.3. The right Brenner tumor was grossly larger than the left ovarian tumor and also exhibited a 4:1 ratio of the epithelial aggregates. This probably represents a difference in function and maturity of the epithelial cells of two tumors and does not reflect the origin of these cells. Remaining histochemical and histologic findings are the same in both ovarian tumors.
