Abstract

The last few decades have witnessed noticeable advancements in various omics technologies, which have provided the scientific community with numerous high-throughput data. These technologies aim to deliver a system-wide understanding of a particular entity type at a specific condition. Along with all other areas of biology, the realm of medicinal plant research has also been bestowed by various omics technologies resulting in the generation of massive data. The potential usage of these data is unlimited; however, these data are large-scale and high-dimensional, and often difficult to analyze and organize. The upsurge in interest to utilize these omics data has pushed data scientists to develop efficient data analytic approaches. This chapter describes the current scenario of omics data in medicinal plant research with a brief discussion on issues that need to be addressed while analyzing these data. There have been quite a good number of reports available for omics analyses in several medicinal plants. We have also attempted to document selected research works in this chapter. In addition to leveraging the research progression of naïve and early career researchers, this review chapter may also benefit the experts.
