Abstract

Big Data are the massive amount of data sets of structured and unstructured data which are complex. So, these data can’t be collected, processed, analyzed and stored using conventional software, algorithm, and data repositories. The massive data analytics of the healthcare system are crucial owing to large amount of data observed in the healthcare sector such as medical imaging data, clinical notes, and patient’s data which have been collected from a large number of patients using various sensors including heart beat rate sensors. So, extraction the valuable data and discarding the useless information is a significant process. Furthermore, Internet of Things (IoT) provides an opportunity to improve healthcare system through connecting medical equipment, objects, and individuals. IoT is employed by doctors to monitor this huge health data stream to keep patients in a healthy status. The aggregated health data is deployed in the cloud which enables rapid and accurate collection of records and the analysis of data streams. This chapter presents an overview of IoT and Big Data analytics (BDA) in healthcare. It presents the sources of Big Data in healthcare, Big data tools and platforms and significance of Big Data in healthcare. It also discusses the challenges of BDA and recent advances in IoT-based Big Data.
