Abstract

Research has traditionally considered the effects of corporate reputation, but less is known about the influence of individual and group reputation on important outcomes in the organization. This study uses a multilevel approach to explore the effects of having a high personal reputation in a group with a less favorable reputation (big fish in a little pond) or the alternative of having a low personal reputation in a group that is viewed more favorably (little fish in a big pond) on employee mobility. Results demonstrate the significance of employee engagement and identity in clarifying this relationship.
