Abstract

According to studies, in recent decades, optimization of energy consumption in the presence of different loads and the use of sensors and different technologies to reduce typical costs or improve the quality of delivered energy has been considered by researchers. The methods used to design an intelligent energy management program can be divided into artificial intelligence methods and classical mathematical methods. In this chapter, the notable terms in the area of smart homes are covered. An essential target of intelligent homes, rules, and principles is regarded; moreover, the question of what to do in smart buildings using smart sensors and intelligent electronic devices is answered. The domain of application, challenges, and advantages of smart buildings using smart sensors and intelligent electronic devices is well discussed. Furthermore, protocols and standards necessary in designing a smart building have been introduced in this chapter. On the other hand, applications of Big Data in smart buildings have been illustrated via practical examples.
