Abstract

In this paper, the synthesis, characterization and dye adsorption properties of a new silver(I) coordination polymer (CP) [Ag2(L)(aip)]n (CP 1) (H2aip = 5-aminoisophthalic acid, L = 1,4-bis(5,6-dimethylbenzimidazol-1-yl)butane) were investigated. The one-dimensional chain CP 1 is constructed by the L and aip2− linkers. Congo red (CR) was used as model compound, the operational parameters include the effects of initial concentration of CR, solution pH, and temperatures were presented. The adsorption equilibrium data were best represented by the Langmuir isotherms, adsorption kinetics follows the pseudo-second-order models. In particular, maximum adsorption capacity of CP 1 towards CR reaches up to 297 mg/g at optimum conditions. Further, CP 1 showed highly selective and sensitive response to Fe3+ by luminescence quenching effects with a detection limit of 2.53 μM.
