Abstract

This paper analyzes an isolated bi-directional three-phase rectifier with power factor correction, based on the matrix converter topology. The proposed converter consists of a bi-directional three-phase to one phase cycloconverter or reduced matrix converter and a bi-directional active rectifier, both implemented by four-quadrant switches (4QSWs). Safe commutation of all the 4QSWs is implemented and incorporated in the soft-switching process. Adding a saturable inductor in series with the leakage inductance reduces switching losses. Experimental results of a 1.2 kW, /spl plusmn/15 A and 20 kHz switching-frequency prototype with an all-digital control are presented.
