Abstract

Abstract A reflectivities model is presented for a forest with snow on the ground and, optionally, on the branches. The winter forest is assumed to be a sparse canopy and its structure represented as randomly positioned vertical cylinders ( or vertical facets randomly oriented in azimuth) and horizontal facets. Explicit expressions are developed for bidirectional and hemispheric reflectivities in terms of two structure parameters and of the reflectivities of the soil plane and of the horizontal facets.
