Abstract

Dioscorea villosa (Dioscoreaceae) is commonly known as wild yam and has been used to treat menstruation and rheumatic disorders [1–3]. Two new bidesmosidic cholestane type steroid glycosides, dioscoreavillosides A and B along with known spirostane monodesmosidic and furostane bidesmosidic glycosides were isolated from the roots of Dioscorea villosa and characterized using spectroscopic techniques and chemical methods.
