Abstract
This chapter updates Chapter 8.24 in CHEC-II covering the literature from 1995 onwards. Syntheses, reactivity, applications, theoretical as well as experimental structural aspects for fused 6–6 bicyclic ring systems with one bridgehead nitrogen atom and two extra heteroatoms (both in the same ring), and their benzo derivatives are summarized. Among the ring systems belonging to the scope of this chapter pyridotriazines are the most explored. Pyridooxadiazines, pyridothiadiazines, and pyridooxathiazines are also described, whereas neither pyridodioxazines nor pyridodithiazines have been reported since 1995. On the contrary, a few ring systems containing heteroatoms other than N, O, or S (diazaphosphorinoisoquinolines, pyridodiazaphosphorines, pyridooxazaphosphorines, pyridobenzoxazasilines) were only published in the same period. The pyrido[3,2,1- ij ][4,1,2]benzoxadiazine derivative marbofloxacine is marketed as an antimicrobial agent with wide spectrum for exclusive veterinary use.
