Bicyclic 5-6 Systems with One Bridgehead (Ring Junction) Nitrogen Atom: One Extra Heteroatom 0:1

Abstract

This chapter contains an overview of the title heterocyclic system organized following the standard style of this series. Most of the references reported deal with the synthesis of almost all types of unsaturated and saturated bicyclic 5-6 systems with one bridgehead nitrogen and their use in natural product synthesis, in medicinal chemistry, as chiral auxiliaries in asymmetric synthesis, and as key intermediates for the preparation of more complex molecules. In the reactivity section, many references involve ring-openings and stereoselective transformations. The syntheses of natural products containing the title heterocycle in the target molecule have been described in detail, such as the synthesis of more complex molecules whose preparation involves, in one important step, the title heterocycle.
