Abstract
This chapter expands on the review presented in CHEC-II (Chapter 8.06) covering fused 5-5 ring systems with one bridgehead nitrogen and three other heteroatoms all in the same ring, and covers the literature since 1995. While most of the compounds described in the earlier chapter were 5-5 fused tetrazole systems, this current survey covers additional ring systems, including pyrrolo[1,2- d ]tetrazoles, pyrrolo[1,2- d ]oxatriazoles, 2,3 a -diaza-1,3-disilapentalenes, tetrazolo[5,1- a ]isoindoles, and several transition metal-containing bicyclic structures. This review describes the chemistry of the aforementioned ring systems including theoretical and structural studies, chemical reactivity, synthetic preparations, and some notable applications.
