Abstract
This paper critically examines the relations between librarianship and social responsibility. it does so in a number of ways; first the dominance of information technology in library and information science, then examines the discussion between 'pragmatism versus social responsability: finally the contribution reports the disciplinary growth of our profession as a social scientific discipline In this way, the author argues for the integration of this different trends ID librarianship, but without missing our social responsability.
