Abstract

There have been a number of bibliometric studies reporting Indian S&T output and analysis of various parameters in the past. The studies were mainly based on International databases viz. SCOPUS and Web of Science. The present study has been taken up using Indian Science s as the source. Various parameters such as Subjects, Institutions, States representing authors’ affiliation, & ‘Priority’ geographical areas for research work on local/regional issues, and Authorship pattern with Subjects distribution have been analysed. Interestingly, the findings reveal that the trend is almost the same with respect to the ‘Productivity’ as reported earlier despite the more coverage of entries as Indian papers in non-Indian journals compared to Indian journals. However, for complete and true picture of Indian S&T output, the publications of Indian authors in Indian as well as non-Indian journals are required to be counted together not only quantitatively but also qualitatively taking citation rates in to account. Suggests initiating certain steps to boost up the visibility and Impact Factor of Indian journals in all the subject fields. Concludes that by adopting the suggested Indian S&T information dissemination strategy, the recent upward trend of publications output and citation rate will be maintained and further strengthened.
