Abstract
Educational emigration from Russia often remains out of focus of both researchers and government officials. Nevertheless, this is one of the channels that, on the one hand, causes the outflow of a young and promising population, and on the other, connects our country with the world's leading scientific and economic centers. This article aims to identify gaps in the study of educational migration from Russia through a structured review of the scientific literature. The subject of the research is the trends in the study of educational migration in Russian-language and English-language scientific literature. The study proves the lack of an integrated approach to the educational migration research in relation to the relatively new concept of “intellectual diaspora”. Using the bibliometric method in combination with content analysis of metadata of articles from the Scopus and RSCI bibliographic databases, the author concludes that despite the obvious connection of these concepts, only a few works consider educational migrants from the point of view of the formation of such diasporas. The article also formulates the need to build a conscious state diaspora policy aimed not only at stimulating re-emigration, but also at other forms of interaction with representatives of national intellectual communities abroad. The limitations of the work are the selected time frame (2017–2022) and the object of research (articles from two bibliographic databases), which allow us to draw conclusions on trends in the study of educational migration in the past five years and identify promising areas of research in this area.
