Abstract

This list· of publications seeks to include all of Professor Yohanan Aharoni's books (scientific and semi-popular) and scientific articles. Intentionally excluded were popular booklets like those published by the Israel Defence Forces: such as the series: Z1~ '17' 7'1;1 (From Dan to Elath) and others, which are mainly popular guides to sites and which subjects are usually dealt with in Aharoni's scientific works. Also excluded were the many articles published in daily newspapers, a selection of which was published in 1970 under the title: 0111'0 O':l (Roads and Places, see no. 1:23) and articles in journals as: The Timc of Israel and Emanuel. Considering the nature and quantity of the material, the bibliography was divided into seen chapters: I Books; II Scientific Articles (in periodicals and books); III Book Reyiews; IV Articles in Encyclopaedias; V Short Communications (on excaations, published in the Israel Exploration Journal and in the Revue Biblique); VI Editing, (subdivided into books that he edited and publications where he was a joint editor); VII Index. The material in every chapter is listed in chronological order. Each year is arranged according to the alphabetic order of names of publications (books and journals) starting with the Hebrew material. Each Hebrew item is followed by its English translation in parentheses. Co-authors: Works written in collaboration with others are mentioned as follows: 1. When Aharoni is the first author: the collaborators, preceded by: [with]' follow the title. 2. When Aharoni is not the first author: all names, in order, preceded by: [by], follow the title. Cross-references: The cross-references are between the first edition and all its translations and/or new editions. There are no cross-references between a second and third editions. Cross-references between items in the same chapter, are referred to without the chapter number. I tried to find all of Aharoni's publications; there may be some omissions, mainly in works which are still at the publishers, about which I did not have any knowledge. Any information on such omissions is welcome for a future edition of this bibliography. I want to thank Mrs. Miriam Aharoni who helped me to collect the works of her late husband and also the various publishers in Israel and abroad, who were kind enough to reply to my requests by sending me information on the forthcoming publications. Special thanks are due to my colleagues at the Tel Aviv University Institute of Archaeology library: Greta Fischer, Adina Grosshaus and Ora Krak for their helpful assistance.
