Abstract

It has long been recognized that there must have been some prototype on paper that was used for the more than 250 mendicant conversion centers constructed in sixteenth-century Mexico. The author suggests that the model can be found in the Gothic biblical drawings of the medieval Franciscan Nicholas of Lyra.
