Abstract

Results are presented showing the effect of bias current on mode competition in the large-signal modulation response of a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser. The overshoot and turn-on delay between the LP01 and LP11 modes are observed to be strongly dependent on the bias current relative to the individual mode threshold currents in both experiments and simulations.
