Abstract

The Bi-Sb phase diagram in [Massalski2] was calculated by this author based on phase diagram and thermodynamic data available at the time of publication (1990). This phase diagram is characterized by a continuous solid solution phase (Bi,Sb). Data on the liquidus and solidus are available in numerous reports including [1905Hut], [1922Coo], [1950Kle], [1952Geg], [1961Gla], [1963Cam], [1974Aka], [1974Dis], [1976Zem], [1987Gla], and [1994Oht]. More information on the literature dealing with the liquidus and solidus can be found in [Massalski2]. The liquidus and solidus were calculated also by [1992Feu] and [1994Oht]. These results are in good agreement with experimental data. More recently, [2007Man] calculated the phase diagram based on the thermodynamic data of [1994Oht] and [2002Cui]. The result is shown in Fig. 1. A characteristic feature of this new phase diagram is the existence of a miscibility gap in the (Bi,Sb) phase. This phase diagram requires confirmation because there has been no experimental attempt to disclose the miscibility gap. References
