Abstract

With the explosive growth of new communication services and the widespread proliferation of multimedia data, the network management system is expected to provide diversified traffic services and enhance network performance simultaneously. To support for the multimedia services efficiently, traffic engineering technique is used to control the flow of IP packets. For the interdomain routing, traffic engineering relies on configurations of the border gateway protocol (BGP). However, BGP has proven to be highly vulnerable to a variety of attacks. In this paper, we first discuss interdomain traffic engineering techniques. Then we describe the vulnerabilities of traffic engineering under BGP, and how attackers to be disable or disrupt interdomain traffic engineering. We also introduce the goals, constraints, and assumptions that apply to the proposed countermeasures.
