Abstract
Based on investigations concerning Piaget’s concept of grouping the paper relates the operative interpretation of mathematics learning to an operative programme of creating knowledge inherent in Klein’s “Erlanger Programm der Geometrie”, in category theory, and in Piaget’s psychology and epistemology. The last part of the paper shows in an exemplary manner how to apply the “operative principle” to mathematics teaching in order to inspire student activities.
