Abstract

About 300 case reports on laryngeal carcinomas associated to laryngoceles are described. There are existing different opinions on the etiological relationship between these lesions; french authors even think that numerous laryngeal carcinomas develop in laryngoceles. As roentgenological investigations often fail to reveal the existence of laryngoceles the depth of the Morgagni's ventricle of 200 laryngeal specimens, extirpated because of laryngeal or hypopharyngeal carcinoma, was measured: ten socalled external laryngoceles could be identified. Clinical data, results from the subserial sections of the laryngeal specimens and the comparison to normal data induce us to the opinion that laryngoceles are congenital anomalies and that associated laryngeal carcinomas develop independently.
