Abstract

Instructors of aural skills traditionally rely upon singing and dictation, and intoning and tapping rhythms for teaching students. This study focuses on an approach that engages the moving body (drawn from Eurhythmics) to develop perception and the kinesthetic associations humans experience in the performance of music. I discuss seven video scenarios, each of which is designed to develop specific musical concepts and musicianship. This approach enhances the sensitivity of the students and the physical relationship with the music they perform and perceive. Furthermore, it refines their kinesthetic sense, strengthens musical memory, and the power of concentration.
