Abstract

“But can you give me some examples of how you’re oppressed?” asked the doctor. “There aren’t any laws against being transgender in the USA.” One of us (GKR, a non-binary Trans man) was wrapping up an educational workshop for medical practitioners on how to provide care for Trans patients and the structural obstacles Trans people face when seeking health care. The doctor continued: “You mentioned that some Trans women are forced to go to men's prisons when they are incarcerated. Can you tell me about that?” In that moment, GKR feared he had failed as an educator.
