Abstract

The chapter looks at the representation of black criminality viewed from a film and TV lens. In spite of the success of TV shows like HBO’s ‘The Wire’, black criminality and victimhood in contemporary film and TV tends to lean heavily on stereotypical and pathologized portrayals of black participation in crime.
