Abstract

Current recommendations in the United States include screening for anemia among all pregnant women, however less is known on the screening of women who desire termination. While the decision to terminate make the risks to the fetus negligible, there remain inherent risks to the mother including transfusion should hemorrhage occur. Moreover, screening allows family planning providers to inform patients of a new diagnosis, and to tailor contraception counseling. Our study aimed to estimate the prevalence of anemia among female adolescents seeking abortion care at a county hospital, and to determine its associated factors.
