Abstract

Abstract Relations between Australia and South Africa have sometimes been depicted in adversarial terms, analogously with the most crudely partisan representations of sporting competition between the two countries. There is a real need to get beyond this model of the relationship and to seize the opportunities for co‐operation. South Africa also has much to learn form the example of Australia's restructuring of its economy in the 1980s, especially in the light of the similarities in the resource‐based nature of the two countries’ economies.
